2007 NS VRX Pajero 3.2L TD DID

We now have over 240,000Km on our rig and it is going great guns. The car has a 35mm lift kit, 17 inch Alloys with D697 265/65r17 attached. Bishskinz Underwear, custom (home made) rear draws, 85L Dual Zone Fridge Freezer, dedicated rear power supply (ie no key fridge still works) Uniden UHF and an Anderson plug set up to charge the Batteries in the Camper. Apart from the lift kit, I have done all the mods myself with little mechanical knowledge.

This is the Fuel Economy on our trip.

As you can see my car does guzzle the Diesel. I installed a new SCV on the Diesel Pump and never got a chance to get an injector relearn done. I got it done while in Broome. The economy before I got it done was 16.975L/100Km and after was 14.982L/100Km. I have left out the Broome Fill ups due to a stuff up in the first fill up. I believe I had an air lock, and although briming when I went to pay, when I came back I had forgotten to put the cap on, it wasn't at the top any longer.

The best economy was the trip from Port Headland to Carnarvon where we picked up a 40Kmph tail wind. The Paj was able to hold the torque converter locked in 5th for most of the trip. The rest of the trip was generally in 4th Gear in 4H mode.

The worst on bitumen was bit to Meekathara from Mt Magnet. We were punching into a head wind of about 15Kmph. The actual Gibb River Road economy averaged 17.781L/100Km which I was reasonably happy with.

This is what I have learned.

  • Get the Relean done ASAP

  • 4H in 4th is more economical unless you have a tail wind.

  • 106Kmph (speedo) is spot on 100Kmph on the GPS

  • 90Kmph is far more economical but who has the time for that! Zzzzz Zzzzz

  • Tyre pressures have a huge impact on economy, drivability and comfort. For highway driving I have 40Psi (cold) all round (46 rears and 44 fronts hot). on the actual Gibb, i played around the the pressures. I settled on 26Psi all round, which gave me 30 in the fronts and 32 in the rears hot.

  • Bridgestone Dueler AT 697's are awesome. No flats at all and after 10,000km on them still have remnants of the tits on them. They are quiet, grippy and can take a beating.

This is us Exitting a Gorge on Mount Elizabeth Station. The 10Km Track took over an hour to negotiate. I do believe if I had standard road tyres, I would have ripped the sidewall out of at least 1 tyre.
